Bohemian Fashion
If you love 60's and 70's fashion then this past year, you've basically been a kid in a candy store. From flowing fabrics, paisley prints, and wide legged pants, 60's and 70's inspired fashion has been everywhere. I really love the 60's/70's bohemian vibes this dress from Forever 21 gives off, as soon as a saw it in the store, I knew I was going to be bringing this baby home with me. I loved the bold colour with the paisley print, and the flowing fabric is perfect for me as a new mom, learning to appreciate a new body.

60's/70's fashion trend

Shop the Look

Though i wore this dress in the summer, I would pair it with a leather jacket and
some booties and I could bring this dress right into Fall.

Are you loving the 60s/70s fashion trend right now?

DIY Active Charcoal Mask
Add caption

Holy Crap,  I put Elmers (school) glue on my face!!! I don't know what shocks me the most, that I actually went through with it ( sorry Moram I was really leaning towards a hell no on trying it) or, that I liked it so much, I want to do it again. Recently, a friend convinced me to do the DIY Active Charcoal Mask and, while I'm game to try DIY's Elmers (school) glue on my face, it is definitely not my idea of good skin care.

Ingredients for DIY Charcoal Mask
Add caption

 Bowl to Mix
2-3 Active Charcoal Pills
Elmers Glue
Brush to Mix & Apply

Active Charcoal Mask
Add Charcoal and 2/3 of the Elmers Glue Bottle in a bowl and stir!
Apply a thick layer of the mask and be sure to check for missed spots created by air bubbles.
When the mask is completely dry, it will turn black like the photo below!
Once dry your ready to PEEL IT OFF!!!

DIY Active Charcoal Mask
The peeling process can be a little bit painful, but as we all know beauty is pain!! I was really skeptical at first but, I think this mask is absolutely amazing and totally worth it,when you consider how cheap the supplies are. Im even considering doing this as opposed to Biore strips. Big thanks to my friend Moram( pictured above) for sharing this mask and allowing me to use her photo on the blog!

If you've tried this mask or have any other suggestions for DIY masks, please comment below and share !!

common signs of postpartum depression

So let's get real, as a person who suffered from anxiety and depression pre pregnancy, I knew there was a pretty good chance that I would suffer from postpartum depression. I was under no illusion that a baby would suddenly make any of my mental health struggles go away and, as much as I thought I'd prepared myself, I totally under estimated how I would feel post pregnancy.

being a new mom and blogging

Blog posts have been non existent lately and, for that I have to apologize, as I felt that I was really on a roll. But, as you can see from the above picture I have a million reasons why blogging just hasn't been the most important thing in my life lately. On June 26th  we welcomed our beautiful baby girl Mieke into the world and we couldn't be happier and, I couldn't be more preoccupied in the world of baby. For the longest time I thought that this blog would be primarily focused on beauty and fashion but, I really feel like life with Mieke will take on a starring role in posts to come. There will still be plenty of beauty and fashion posts because well, old habits die hard, but I can't wait to share more of my daily life on here!

The moment I found out I had Gestational Diabetes I was absolutely heartbroken. The early months of my pregnancy had been so difficult, but the second trimester and the beginning of the third had been going so well I didnt think anything bad could happen. The first thing going through my mind was  once again, I had failed my baby, and there were a lot of tears of frustration to reflect those feelings. I got the news on a Friday, so it left me with a lot of time to google and overthink before i was able to see a doctor. I'm happy to say that with the help of my doctor and the Diabetes Association of Canada ( thank you internet !!) , I am lot more educated on what it means to have Gestational Diabetes. I will also be attending a one on one session at my local diabetes centre, where I will get some guidance on the lifestyle and dietary changes i'll need to make for the remainder of my pregnancy. With just the basic information I have gotten from my doctor, I have made an effort to cut out all junk food
(goodbye Orange Crush pregnancy cravings) and do some form of daily light excersise. In the weeks to come I know my willpower will be tested, especially when it comes to cravings, but I know that the changes I make will be important for my sweet baby.  I'll definitely keep you guys up to date on my journey.

Makeup Forever Ultra HD Invisible Coverage Foundation in R520 Cinnamon

Orange ! That's what my face looked like after applying the Makeup Forever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation in shade R520. At first I didn't think it was too bad but honey, when a man tells you your face is looking orange, well then your face is orange. Especially when the person telling you knows absolutely nothing about makeup. However, in the foundations defense, I did match my shade on my own and, we all know that Sephora lighting can be extremely deceiving. I also found that the foundation was slightly on the watery side, but given its "Invisible" qualities I'm assuming that the coverage is light but build-able. I did return this product to my local Sephora, where they informed me that the foundation does come in other shades. Unfortunately for this chocolate girl, those shades weren't available at their location.  I did end up purchasing another foundation the Tarte Amazonian Clay 12- Hour Full Coverage Foundation in the shade DEEP HONEY.
Hopefully this one is a keeper!

I had to share this great video I saw on facebook! If you've ever heard or used the saying "black dont crack", then this video is for you.
It gives a great explanation of why black women often age slower then white women, along with scientific research and evidence to back it up. In anticipation of all the beautiful spring and summer weather, this video also explains the importance of proper sun protection.

Hope you found this helpful !

Makeup loving Canadians rejoice, Shoppers Drug Mart now carries NYX Cosmetics! Word on the street ( well word on Reddit but, same difference) is that NYX replaced Almay in Shoppers Drug Mart stores across Canada. While I don't know if this rumour is true, I am really excited to see NYX a brand that caters to all skin tones in Shoppers Drug Mart stores. No offence to Almay but, they never carried many shades for us chocolate girls and when a brand does that I just can't get behind them. If you see a NYX display in your local Shoppers Drug Mart be sure to try the Butter Glosses, the Lip Suede's, and pray that Shopper will soon carry the Lip Lingerie's.

p.s. NYX Canada also has free a standing store  on Queen St. in Toronto

Benefits of Charcoal and Clay Skincare

A while ago I did a blog post on Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask, and I wont lie the desire to do so was solely based on all the hype surrounding it. After trying the mask I gave it a not great review, based on the fact that after using it once my skin broke out, and honey i was expecting miracles and baby bottom skin the way people were talking about this mask. Recently I noticed that people were still raving about Charcoal and Clay on the skin, they were so convincing I decided to purchase another mask!! However this time I thought I'd do some research before I take the plunge! Here are the benefits of Clay and Charcoal according to LIVESTRONG.

*Activated charcoal draws bacteria, poisons, chemicals, dirt and other micro-particles to the surface of skin, helping you to achieve a flawless complexion and fight acne.

*When mixed with water and applied to the skin's surface, its molecules become charged and draw out toxins from beneath the skin.

It's Important to note that both Charcoal and Clay may cause break outs, a sign that all that gross stuff is being drawn out of the skin, before you see results.

The trend that Bloggers and YouTubers have been praising for what seems like more then a year, has finally made it to the Sephora homepage. Hold on to your makeup brushes ladies because colour correcting is about to take the makeup world by storm, according to Sephora. Mind you, like I said before bloggers and YouTubers have been colour correcting loooong before Sephora and major brands gave it their stamp of approval. It will be interesting to see where this trend goes !

RED / ORANGE - Darkspots
GREEN- Redness
PURPLE- Dullness

*based on my skin tone.
*see Sephora Colour Correcting page for more info.

The fact that I am going to be a mother soon absolutely terrifies me which, I'm sure is a feeling that a lot of soon to be mothers share. I am such a control freak/planner in life but, a baby and motherhood is something that is so absolutely unpredictable. That being said happiness and excitement have shared equal space with that terrified feeling. I feel so amazingly blessed that this little miracle chose me to be his/her mama, and so I am ready and willing to ride the unpredicatability train.

Pregnancy for me thus far has been extremely lonely. Often I find myself suffering from extreme moments of anxiety, and depression thinking about the fact that I will be a single parent.

How do I deal with these moments?

All it takes is the sound of my baby's heart beat, and the image of his/her tiny body moving on the screen, to remind me of my bigger purpose in life. I truly believe in my heart that everything will be okay.

When I first started this blog it was one of those moments where, I had seen so many other people blogging and I quickly thought...WOW I can do that!!! However, over the years it has been a struggle, whether its been the content, personal issues, or lack of confidence, I always managed to find a reason not to post. Lately, I've really been feeling that there isnt any specific blog guideline or criteria that has to be followed. Whether or not my blog is super successful I will be happy knowing that what I've written, has come from the heart.

So today I want to share with you a little piece of my heart, my very own piecce of heaven on earth.

The pictures are kind of blurry but, I challenge any of you to hold your bladder when all your body is telling you to do is PEE!!!. Anyways, I promise to do better next time :) The moment I saw these pictures ( although this isn't my first ultrasound) my heart felt so full for the first time ever. The moment when you see that little person on the screen it's like you truly know what it means to fall in love. It's a love that so powerful and overwhelming, and in that moment you know that you will go to the end of the world for the life thats inside of you. I originally started this blog to focus on fashion and beauty but, I truly hope whoever reads this will join my on whats already been the greatest journey of my life.
